How to play
Setup
- The host sets up the game: round time, score goal, word pack and mode.
- Players split into teams or stay as spectators.
- Agree up front how skips and disputed words are scored - you can adjust the points for every word after the round.
During a round
- The explainer sees the word and describes it to their team without breaking the explaining rules.
- Word guessed - press "Next" and move on to the following one.
- Stuck on a word? Skip it and settle it during scoring.
- The round runs until the timer ends, then the next player becomes the explainer.
Scoring
- Every guessed word gives the team +1.
- A skip is 0 or -1, whichever you agreed on before the game.
- Breaking the explaining rules counts as a skip.
- After the round you can adjust the points for each word by hand (-1, 0, +1).
- The first team (or player) to reach the score goal wins.
How to explain
- Don't say the word itself, its parts or words sharing a root: "homework" won't do for "home".
- Don't use direct translations or transliteration.
- Don't hint at letters, syllables or the length of the word.
- Don't hunt for rhymes or similar-sounding words on purpose.
- Explain through meaning: category, purpose, synonyms, antonyms, examples - "worn in winter", "part of a car".
- If you explained by meaning and the clue happened to rhyme by accident, don't penalise it.
Modes
- Team: the classic - teams take turns, the explainer changes every round.
- Solo: the game picks the explainer and the guesser from online players and swaps them after each round (needs at least two).
- Teams can be any size - what matters is that only the active team guesses.
