How public rooms work

Public rooms are visible in the list while at least one player is online.

Pack editor

Packs are kept only in this browser. Build a pack from scratch or load a .siq from SIGame, then play it in a private room.

Cat Quiz Show rules

The idea

  • The board has categories with questions of different values: the higher the value, the harder the question.
  • If you know the answer, hit the buzzer. Whoever buzzes first answers.
  • A correct answer adds the value of the question, a wrong one takes the same away. Scores can go below zero.
  • The player with the highest score after the final wins.

The board

  • A random player picks the first question, then whoever answered correctly picks.
  • If nobody answers, the same player picks again.
  • In the next round, the player with the lowest score picks first.
  • The host of a private room can play their own SIGame pack (.siq) or build a pack in the editor on the site.

The buzzer

  • While the cat reads the question, the buzzer is closed. It opens a random fraction of a second after the reading.
  • Buzzing too early locks the buzzer for 3 seconds.
  • Buzzes within the first 0.3 seconds count as simultaneous, and one of those players is picked at random.
  • You can answer each question only once. If you don't know, press "Pass".
  • For picture and sound questions, the buzzer opens once the picture has loaded for everyone and the sound has finished.
  • Tap a picture to enlarge it. After the answer, a caption appears under it.

Answers

  • Capitals, punctuation, spaces, accents and articles do not matter.
  • If an answer is close to the correct one, it is shown to everyone and the players vote. A tie means it is accepted.
  • If a close answer is rejected, the question closes.
  • Packs can have multiple choice questions, number answers with a margin and marking a place on a picture. The cat checks these itself, without a vote.

Special questions

  • Cat in the bag: the question goes to another player, who chooses its value: the lowest or the highest of the round in the bank, or as set by the author in a pack. Some cats in the bag have no question and simply give points.
  • Auction: starting with whoever opened the question, players take turns to raise, pass or go all in. The highest bidder answers, winning the bid for a correct answer and losing it for a wrong one.
  • No risk and questions for yourself: whoever opens the question answers it for double value with no penalty for a mistake.
  • Question for everyone: everyone answers at once, winning the value for a correct answer and losing it for a wrong one.
  • All in for everyone: players above zero place a secret wager from 1 up to their score and answer at the same time.

The final

  • Players with a score above zero go through to the final.
  • Finalists take turns striking out categories, starting with the lowest score, until one is left.
  • Each finalist places a secret wager from 1 up to their score.
  • There are 45 seconds to answer. A correct answer adds the wager, a wrong one takes it away.

A presenter from the spectators

  • Instead of the cat, a person from the spectators can present the game and see the correct answers.
  • The presenter decides whether to accept answers, so players can answer out loud, for example on Discord.
  • The presenter can give half credit for an answer. The presenter and the host can correct a player's score from the menu in the player list, and the change shows up in the game log.
  • If the presenter goes quiet or leaves, the cat checks the answers.
